Takeover Day
SHOW BRIEF

Caroline Marcus is Director of Kids in Museums Takeover Day. She is passionate about welcoming children and young people in museums.

Takeover Day is an annual day across the UK when museums invite young people in and give them a meaningful, decision-making role usually done by adults in museums. From curators to café workers, consultants to pest controllers, welcome hosts to social media managers, they are in charge.

Rather than being a programme for young people, the emphasis is on young people’s meaningful participation, involvement and powerful decision making.

Takeover Day 2013 was the biggest initiative to involve young people in museums across England, Scotland and Wales, with 6,500 taking part.

Kids in Museums works with the Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Day across all organisations, to better involve and empower young people.

Caroline is currently directing a pilot Takeover Day across the arts. Partners for Takeover Arts are the Barbican, Sadler’s Wells, Oval House Theatre and firstsite, supported by Arts Council England.

She works with partners including Bridge Organisations, Arts Council England, CyMAL, Museums Galleries Scotland, Culture 24 and Arts Award.
