Take One Picture
SHOW BRIEF

Caroline Marcus was the National Gallery’s Curator: Take One Picture Display, 2014. Take One Picture is the Gallery’s, flagship national primary school project which utilises a single painting as a creative springboard to cross-curricular learning. George Seurat’s Bathers at Asnières, 1884 was the focus painting in 2014.

Take One Picture invites teachers and pupils to take inspiration from one work in the collection and use it as a stimulus for learning across the curriculum. Hundreds of school communities take part and submit work to be considered for inclusion in the Take One Picture Display.

Caroline visited primary schools across the UK, selected pupils’ work for the display and managed a large cross-departmental team to deliver this complex project within budget.

‘The display allows the public to see a small snapshot of the excellent cross–curricular teaching going on in so many primary schools where an imaginative approach can foster a real love of learning. Taking part in this special project often fires children with an enthusiasm for making links between a range of subjects and gives them a thirst for knowledge which lasts a lifetime’ Andy Brettell, Head teacher, Bishop’s Tachbrook CE Primary School, Warwickshire
